About

About me and my photography.

Julian Kanz Photographer

Italy Wedding Photography in Liguria, Tuscany and Lake Como.

Born in Germany, I discovered my love for capturing moments at an early age. When I was 16, my first pictures were published in a Belgian newspaper, at the age of 18 I met Angela Merkel in her office in Bonn to photograph her for an interview. I worked as a photojournalist in Germany and I had the honour to photograph a lot of politicians and personalities, such as Bill Clinton, Bono (U2), Helmut Kohl, Massimo d’Alema and many more.

Later, I moved to Berlin where I helped organise the “Bundespresseball” (it’s considered the most important social event of the year).

Then I met my wife Linda and moved to Italy. One day, a friend of ours asked me to document his brother’s wedding and that’s where everything started. When I delivered the photographs and saw the couple’s emotions, I realised that these pictures for them were so much more than “just some nice pictures”.

At the time it was about the PHOTO – today it’s about the STORY

As a photojournalist, it was about the single shot – as a wedding photographer, it’s about the story. The story of an extraordinary and unique day. With all these details, emotions, candid shots and amazing portraits. How often does it happen in life to invite friends and families, take them to a beautiful place and celebrate a big party all together?

Linda and I are still living happily in the small town by the sea, less than two kilometres from the pub where we “rst met. We have two wonderful daughters, Emma and Lena, and life has been very good to me.

As a wedding photographer in Italy, my photos have been published in numerous national and international blogs, newspapers and magazines and many of my photos have received international awards. German television ZDF came to Italy to shoot a documentary about me, but the biggest award is my numerous and consistently positive reviews from my clients over the past 13 years.

Wedding Photographer Italy Tuscany Liguria

Born in southern Germany, where Julian discovered his love for capturing moments at an early age. He was only 12 years old when he held his first camera and ever since he knew he wanted to become a photographer.

Pursuing his dream, he started as a photojournalist before he met his wife Linda and moved to Italy where he fell in love with weddings. He captured hundreds of weddings all over the world and is known for his creative vision and good photography skills, but also his kindness and tireless hard work.

At the age of 18, he met and photographed Angela Merkel in her office in Bonn and he also had the honor of photographing Bill Clinton, Bono of U2, Massimo D’Alema, and other personalities. (Sacha Baron Cohen and his wife Isla Fisher at a wedding in Tuscany – Justin Bieber once asked him to take a picture of him and his bridal couple).

At the time it was about the single PHOTO – today it’s about the STORY

After working some years as a photojournalist, he met his wife and moved to Italy where they are still living happily in a small town by the sea, less than two kilometers from the pub where they first met. Linda and Julian have two wonderful daughters, Emma and Lena, and life has been very good to him.

As a wedding photographer in Italy, Julian is traveling every weekend in Liguria, Tuscany, and Lake Como to document wonderful weddings and he is truly grateful to call work what he loves most in the world: telling one-day-love-stories – documenting weddings and capturing all the wonderful emotions that make up this extraordinary day.

It’s about the story of a day that is truly unique in life. How often does it happen in life that you invite friends and families, some see each other again after many years, to celebrate a big party together?

It’s the uniqueness and the joy of that day that has always touched him

After all these years, Julian is still incredibly impatient to edit the pictures and show them to his clients – he just can’t wait to let them laugh and cry once they see their wedding photographs for the first time.

Julian remembers the first time when his daughter opened their wedding album, he was observing her while she was browsing the spreads and he realized the value these photographs will have one day. That big day often is the beginning of a life together, a time capsule which you will look at all the time with joy and pride. That value is priceless.

HOW DID YOU BECOME A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?

I started as a photojournalist in the late 1990s in Berlin. Years later, a friend of mine asked me to document his brother’s wedding and that was the moment when I fell in love with weddings, and from that day on I’m traveling the world to photograph beautiful weddings.

WHAT’S YOUR STYLE?

I like to call it a “creative documentary style.” Having a photojournalism background, my photography is very natural without too much interference from me but I’m always looking for interesting light, angles, and backgrounds.

WHAT ABOUT YOUR RATES?

I’ll be happy to send you the access code for my pricing area, please email me at pricing@sviluppo.juliankanz.com

WHERE WILL YOU TRAVEL?

Anywhere. I love to travel. I’ve shot weddings in Canada, the USA, Spain, Germany, the UK, Switzerland, France, Monte-Carlo and all Italy of course.

LET’S MEET – HOW CAN WE TALK?

I’ve always found it much helpful to meet in person or via Skype to tackle questions and answers. Let’s meet for coffee in my studio in Liguria or virtually on Skype. Let me know what time works best for you.

HOW MANY HOURS DO YOU OFFER ON THE WEDDING DAY?

My service covers the entire day from getting ready until the dances. But I’m happy to stay as long as you want me with you.

HOW DO WE BOOK & PAY?

Easy. After we set up a meeting in person, phone call, or Skype you’ll receive all the payment details and an electronic agreement to read and sign online.
IMPORTANT: These two things are required to save your date. I can’t hold any dates without. There are times of the year where I receive plenty of inquiries for the same date and that’s the reason why I work on a “first-come, first-served basis”.

HOW MANY PHOTOS DO WE GET?

I typically deliver 1000/3000 images per wedding.

WHEN DO WE GET THE PHOTOS?

Two weeks after your wedding you’ll get all the images.

HOW DO WE GET OUR PHOTOS?

You’ll have your private, password-protected online gallery which you can share with all your families and friends in the world.

DO YOU PROVIDE A PRINT AND DISTRIBUTION RELEASE?

Absolutely. You can print your photos wherever you want and you can distribute them around the internet too for private use (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) I also provide prints from my professional print lab if you want them done well.

DO YOU TAKE FAMILY/GROUP PORTRAITS?

Of course. I love them. Often a wedding is the only time where all the family members will be in the same place at the same time, and I think it’s important to document that.

DO YOU HAVE ANY CLIENT REVIEWS?

Yes! Here we go, please take a look at 100+ references: LINK

If you want to contact someone on the list please let me know, I will provide email addresses and phone numbers.

IF WE DON’T WANT OUR WEDDING TO BE BLOGGED?

I totally understand if you want your wedding to remain private.

CAN MY UNCLE BOB TAKE PHOTOS DURING MY WEDDING?

Sure. I never have any problem with photographing guests, videographers, or anyone else. Of course, sometimes they happen into my frames if you like to avoid that just let them know before.

DO YOU RECOMMEND A WEDDING ALBUM?

I believe having your wedding images printed is extremely important. A wedding album will follow you for the rest of your life and one day you’ll be happy and proud to show it to your kids.
Once your photos will be ready, I’ll be happy to show you some wonderful handmade leather albums “Made in Itay” I’m offering.

DO YOU OFFER ENGAGEMENT, PRE OR POST WEDDINGS SESSIONS?

Yes, it’s a great way for you to get some beautiful pictures to use for your wedding invitations, for your walls at home, your Facebook/Instagram, or wherever you want to look nice. I call them ‘YOU-Session’ and there are some sessions on my blog.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?

I’m a featured photographer over at shotkit.com/julian-kanz

IS THIS YOUR REAL JOB?

Yes. I’ve been working as a professional photographer since 2008. I’ve photographed 600+ weddings.
